Podcast Advertising Statistics 2026: Revenue, Reach, and Response

Podcast advertising statistics explained through market size, audience reach, and listener response
Verified September 8, 2026. This report keeps US revenue, US audience studies, and Great Britain audience studies separate. Every figure includes its market, period, population, source, and limitation.

The quick answer: US podcast advertising revenue reached $2.862 billion in 2025, up 17.6% year over year, according to IAB and PwC. Separate audience studies found monthly ad-supported podcast reach of 31% among US adults in 2025 and 43% among adults in Great Britain in 2026. Those reach figures come from different markets and should not be combined.

Podcast advertising statistics snapshot

Direct answer: The best current evidence shows a growing US revenue market, meaningful ad-supported reach, and listener-reported actions. It does not provide one universal podcast-ad conversion rate.

How large is the podcast advertising market?

Direct answer: IAB and PwC measured $2.862 billion in US podcast advertising revenue for 2025. That was a 17.6% increase from $2.433 billion in 2024.

The 2025 result is higher than IAB's earlier forecast of nearly $2.6 billion for 2026. Forecasts are planning estimates. The later revenue report is a measurement of the prior calendar year, so it should replace the older forecast when describing current market size.

The long-run direction is clear, but annual growth is uneven. Reported revenue rose 5.5% in 2023, 26.4% in 2024, and 17.6% in 2025. A single high-growth year should not be treated as a permanent rate.

How many people are reached by podcast advertising?

Direct answer: Sounds Profitable measured monthly ad-supported podcast reach at 31% of US adults in 2025. Its 2026 Great Britain study measured 43% of adults. These are separate weighted studies and not a global average.

Ad-supported reach is narrower than total podcast consumption because some listeners use paid subscriptions, skip ads, or consume shows with limited advertising. For general podcast audience size, use our Podcast Statistics 2026 hub. For active video behavior and platform scale, use the Video Podcast Statistics 2026 report.

The Great Britain study used a weighted sample of 5,033 adults. It reported that 56% of monthly ad-supported podcast listeners listened daily or almost daily. That describes frequency inside the reached audience, not 56% of all adults.

Do podcast ads drive recall and action?

Direct answer: In the 2026 Great Britain study, 79% of monthly ad-supported podcast listeners recalled hearing a podcast ad in the prior week, and 44% said they had made a purchase after hearing one. These are self-reported results, not guaranteed campaign conversion rates.

A 2025 US study gives another view of behavior among "Podcast Primes," defined as near-daily podcast consumers. In that group, 33% said they had written down a promotional code after an ad-supported podcast in the previous 6 months, while 27% said they had researched the advertised brand.

Do not combine these percentages. The UK study covers monthly ad-supported listeners. The US action figures cover near-daily consumers. Different populations, periods, questions, and markets create different denominators.

The useful conclusion is limited: podcast ads can be remembered and can precede measurable actions. The studies do not tell a sponsor what one specific show, host read, creative, offer, or landing page will deliver.

What should podcast advertisers and sponsors measure?

Direct answer: Match the metric to the campaign. Use unique reach and brand lift for awareness, tracked visits and searches for consideration, and qualified inquiries, codes, or conversions for response.

  1. Reach: count the people or valid impressions exposed, not only episode downloads.
  2. Attention: track completed listens or views when the platform provides them.
  3. Consideration: use a unique landing page, tagged link, or post-campaign brand search analysis.
  4. Response: track promotional codes, form submissions, trials, purchases, or sales-qualified inquiries.
  5. Quality: review who responded. Ten relevant B2B inquiries can matter more than hundreds of untargeted clicks.
  6. Assisted impact: ask new customers where they first heard about the brand. Podcast exposure often precedes a later search or direct visit.

PGS uses the same boundary for its founding sponsor placements: payment buys clearly labeled access to a relevant page, not control over editorial rankings or a guaranteed result.

Can podcast ads reach people who avoid television ads?

Direct answer: In an October 2025 survey of 603 US weekly podcast consumers, 86% had used an ad-free video streaming service in the past month and 35% did not subscribe to a pay TV company.

The same Cumulus Media and Signal Hill Insights study reported that podcast consumers spent 41% of their video viewing time on ad-free platforms. That supports a media-planning case for podcasts, but the study was commissioned by an audio company and covers weekly podcast consumers rather than all US adults.

What these podcast advertising statistics do not prove

Direct answer: Market growth does not guarantee campaign performance. Self-reported purchases do not equal an attributable conversion rate. Reach in one country does not describe every market.

  • The $2.862 billion figure covers US revenue and uses IAB/PwC's traditional audio-based podcast definition.
  • Company, publisher, and commissioned studies can use different definitions of listening, ad exposure, recall, and action.
  • Percentages among listeners are not percentages of the full population.
  • Host fit, creative, offer, frequency, placement, and landing-page quality can change results.
  • This report does not provide a universal CPM, cost per acquisition, or return-on-ad-spend benchmark.

Methodology and limitations

Podcast Growth Studio reviewed current public reports available by September 8, 2026. We prioritized IAB/PwC revenue reporting and named audience studies with disclosed markets and samples. We recorded each metric with its original period, population, geography, and limitation.

This is a desk review. PGS did not conduct the underlying surveys or audit publisher revenue. Sounds Profitable and Cumulus Media are industry participants. Their audience results are presented as findings from their named studies, not neutral population facts beyond those samples.

We do not average unlike studies or convert listener-reported actions into campaign conversion rates. Values in the downloads preserve the source wording and limitation needed to interpret each row.
